Don’t Think – Just Shoot!

Our new favourite thing is Lomography. We hear people shuttering about it everywhere at the moment!

But what actually is Lomography? It’s a celebration of analogue photography, which gets back to basics with simple snapshots on 35mm film, ditching all that expensive hi-tech digital stuff!

Lomograph cameras achieve ‘happy accidents’ by over-saturating colors and blurring images to create unique retro-looking photos. It’s all about simple, creative, visual expression.

Take a look through the lens of the Lomographer’s philosophy:

1. Take your camera everywhere you go
2. Use it any time – day and night
3. Lomography is not interference in your life, but part of it
4. Try to shoot from the hip
5. Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible
6. Don’t think
7. Be fast
8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film
9. Or afterwards either
10. Don’t worry about any rules

Get to grips with it yourself by popping into the new Lomography Gallery Store London, in the heart of Soho, which is lined with 14,000 Lomo snaps. And don’t be shy, as the Lomography architecture team insist: “Every single item can be touched, stroked, smelt and cuddled”!

You can also join Lomography’s Analogue Christmas workshop on 17th December at 7pm to make an album for a special friend or family member. You’ll be given a Lomo album which is already beautifully packaged in a box and you can fill it with Analogue Love! The £10 ticket includes free album, photo mounts and pens to borrow. You will also have a Diana F+ Instant photo taken of yourself to put in the album and can type your Christmas messages on their analogue typewriter!

The Lomography Gallery Store London is located in the unique Newburgh Quarter just off Carnaby Street in Soho, Central London.
