Must-Have Gadgets for 2010
There is little doubt in anyone’s mind that 2010 is set to be the year of the gadget. From 4G phones to everything appearing in 3D, you probably won’t even have to keep an eye out for the latest trends – they’ll be able to find you.
Fancy TVs – one product dominated the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas – 3D television sets. While you still need glasses to view them, these TVs are set to revolutionise the entire television world. US channels ESPN, Fox Sports and Discovery have already announced new 3D channels and many sports events and concerts will now be filmed in this format. The latest Samsung TV model includes our favourite new feature – a remote with a colour touch screen so that you can preview a channel before switching over – channel surfing at its best!
Project Natal – while this project sounds as crazy as flying cars and colonies on the moon; it is actually set for release this year. Taking things a step further than a Nintendo Wii, Project Natal from Microsoft X-box gets rid of a physical games controller all together. Instead a motion-sensitive webcam captures the player’s every move – essentially making you the controller. Ideal for the hidden control freak inside all of us.
Apple Slate/Tablet/iPad – as you can guess by the sheer number of names, the newest expected Apple innovation is a bit of a mystery and a tad confusing. All we know is that it’s a cross between a Macbook and an iPhone – so it has to be awesome.
The indestructible mobile phone – it’s not exactly pretty or trendy, but the latest phone from Sonim is hardy as hell. Think tough as in still ringing while lying at the bottom of a fish tank. The guerrilla glass screen is even strong enough to hammer in a nail – so something silly like a scratch is a thing of the past. The latest model has the equivalent processing power of a Blackberry and comes in black or sunny yellow. Perfect for those of us who continually drop our phones in our beers.
