Disco Yourself Fit

Surprise surprise, the most common New Year’s resolution for 2010 was once again a vow to get fit and join a gym.

Many of us will have bought some awesome workout gear, resolutely signed up at our local health club and then gone exactly once. On the day we signed up. And never again.

But let’s be honest, for most of us, the last thing we want to do is get up early and attempt to look fit and perky whilst navigating the settings of a treadmill. But getting healthy is a decent goal for a new year, if only it could be more fun…

Enter the Disco Health Club! This weekly ’80s-style aerobics class features dance moves inspired by the likes of Jane Fonda and Olivia Newton-John – it doesn’t get any cheesier than that. But the disco awesomeness doesn’t end there -there are flashing lights, lasers and even a bar that only serves water, juices and smoothies of course. And the whole event plays out to a soundtrack of the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Wham!.

But you have to do your bit too and dress the part. Think shiny legging and retro sweatbands, any early Kevin Bacon movie should offer ample inspiration. And the best part? The venue becomes a real disco at 10pm, so you can combine a good night out with getting fit and becoming a Dancing Queen.

We say why not? Most of us look silly while exercising, so we might as well embrace it and go all the way. So grab your leg warmers and neon sweats and get fit in 2010 – disco style.
