Where Will You Be Drowning the Shamrock?
St Patrick’s Day is celebrated the world over and we’re revealing the top ten cities to party in on the 17th March.
1. Dublin, Ireland
Learn how it’s really done with traditional Irish music and guaranteed craic. Away from the city centre you’re likely to have a more authentic party in any pub you can find.
2. San Francisco, California
An entire weekend of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is a huge cultural event in California.
3. Coatbridge, Scotland
The Scots have a week-long celebration to honour traditional Irish heritage with authentic musical acts, parades and festivals.
4. New York, New York
The bright lights shine green in the big city for everyone’s favourite Irish holiday. If you want authenticity, head to McSorley’s Old Ale House in the East Village – it’s been there since 1854!
5. Chicago, Illinois
What first happened as a plumbing accident has turned into the infamous tradition of dyeing the Chicago River emerald green (pictured). To see it, you must be east of Columbus or west of Lake Shore Drive. Chicago has grown to be the biggest neighborhood-based St. Patrick’s Day Parade outside of Dublin.
6. Birmingham, England
You might think London’s the place for the St Pat’s party, but Birmingham has a strong Irish influence, and an Irish Quarter which throbs with traditional Irish culture.
7. Montreal, Canada
On Canada’s oldest parade, a giant replica of St. Patrick greets parade-watchers and signals the official start of the festivities!
8. Montserrat, Caribbean
The so-called “Emerald Isle of the Caribbean” has a unique Afro-Irish culture and an impressive week-long beach celebration.
9. Sydney, Australia
With Irish Australians comprising of nearly 10 per cent of the population down under, there’s always a bonzer party to be had! Fountains turn green and roads are blocked off around the harbour where a large amount of Irish pubs are nestled.
10. Tokyo, Japan
Over the past decade, St Patrick’s Day has continued to gain popularity and Tokyo’s parade is one of the city’s most beloved international events.
So raise your drink and say Sláinte (pronounced slawn-sha) on St Patrick’s Day, wherever you are!
