Thanks to the absolute honesty of the ladies of Sex and the City, we all know that New York is a pretty open and sexy place to be. But where exactly do you have to go to hook-up?

Time Out New York took to the streets to find out the answer to this very important question.

Forget bars and clubs, apparently the subway is a great place to start. Nothing breaks the ice like mutual annoyance at a late train. If you’re looking for someone a little more arty and intellectual, you could also just relax on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum – just make sure you know your Manets from your Monets.

The more beer than book-focussed New Yorkers advise that you pop to The Gate bar in Brooklyn. You can expect lots of flirting with a friendly, mixed crowd of ‘young, old, feathered and furred’ – the best part is that you can bring your dog and we know that nothing works as a better hook-up than a cute puppy.

Those in the know in the Big Apple also advise that you should never discount your local Office Supplies store. It doesn’t sound so sexy, but we all know about office hook-ups and apparently you can connect pretty easily over toner and fax machines.
